THE FANTASY DINNER PARTY

poem by: Ann Parks

Yeah right
who'd you invite ?
to a nice evening meal
with someone you feel
was worth meeting there
from history - to share
what makes them tick
and who makes them sick
you'd have to agree
this is real history.

I know who to ask
not such a great task
not obvious guests
but they pass my tests :
leaving the world a better place
and not being a waste of space....

BUT - what food should I serve
as they all deserve
the very best fayre
and should I dare
to sit hours in debating
why we are still hating
the evil dictators
as I pass the potatoes
and pour more wine
as the Maginot Line
is fervently discussed
and although I must
make sure they're polite
and don't loose sight
of why they were invited
my hopes will be blighted
if I cannot learn fast
from these folks of the past
how to live my life well
who came? I won't tell!
