Marching Boots,

poem by: Christopher Russon
Written on Jul 27, 2023

Those heavey boots
That marched our streets
Will never march again
Peace has come upon our land
No longer a world insane,
Six long years of fear and dread
With so much uncertainty
Now we sleep at night in bed
At peace and feeling free,
The world it is a nicer place
The war came to an end
Instead of army uniforms
It's clothes for working men,
No longer are we out to kill
Battling for right and wrong
Now we are learning building skills
To make our houses strong,
The scene of this world is changing
It is so very clear to see
Children are out there playing
On swings and climbing trees.
Now families go on holidays
They head for sand and sea
And ice cream stands and and big brass bands
The way that life should be,
Things it seems are better now
There's just one thing to say
The futures looking brighter
Let's pray it will stay that way,

It’s so sad that our parents, and grandparents had to live through the horrors of the 2nd World war...we are so lucky to have lived a relatively peaceful life since ....and long my it last....glad to see you back with your usual top quality poetry Chris....keep them coming mate...
