A horror has happened

poem by: Eireann O'Kane
Written on Jul 19, 2016

A horror has happened
My name screams out
It wounds this heart to hear your pain
But your souls are now filled with doubt.

I wish I could come and tell you
Help to piece back the parts
But no words from even me, I’m afraid
Will help to re-fill your hearts

Once more I look from up here
And upon the sacred ground
My people of Derry are broken
There seeps an unbearable sound

Silence. It cries my name
How could you? It asks me again
But though I cannot show you why
Please let me try to explain

I created a world that was free
A choice that was no easy one
What happens sometimes is beautiful
At others, I regret what I’ve done

Whilst I have no control over most things
Up here I am never asleep
As I await each and every one of you
I promise you, here you won’t weep

I am there to take by the hand
Each child as they cross to above
My angels will warm with gold halos
Your faces will glow from our love
So be angry at me, shout and I’ll hear
Throw me your rage and dear sorrow
But please, all I ask is to believe
For every cry my heart feels an arrow

I beg you yes, I can do this
Do not dwell on the whats or the ifs
Cast all of your hatred towards me
But know I will see through it

And I promise I'll look after your loved ones
You will see them again one day
For now, let peace fill you mind
They are safe with me here until then.

this Is a really well written poem with depth. The last few verses give hope to this horror.

Beautiful, sad, emotional but very well crafted. A masterpiece of heart felt expression with a message of compassion and hope.
