Smile

What makes us do it?
It seems to reflect non aggress,
So the face joins in
With lips turned up to express.

When one sees it on another
Know its a good sign
Something is going on
No need to explain.

It wont take long to catch
Smiles can be contagious too,
We humans seem to enjoy
To shows others we are not blue.

It can be a mystery to some
As they cant understand the hue,
And will baulk at returning the compliment
Because theirs is a question of, do I know you?

Shame as we all feel good when smiling
It is an invitation to say hi,
Can break down barriers
Maybe stop prejudice if we only try.

What a delight to feel the goodwill
From a stranger who is not scared
To show their emotions
And invite you to do the same unimpaired.

This thing called a smile
Can be influenced by affection,
Motivated by appeal
And worn by us who have good intention.

When we feel it start
Something good is happening,
Look forward to whatever
Knowing happiness is accompanying.

Maybe the day will come
We realize smiles absolutely free
To share and give away
Is the only way to be.

So let us feel the pride of being first
Of showing you too only want to live,
And reap the benefits
Of letting a smile be yours to give.
