A Light in the Darkness

poem by: Josephina DeGraeve
Written on Jan 13, 2017

Darkness swirls, twirls, surrounds me
Taunting, seducing, overwhelming my mind
I must focus on my hope
hold steady to my path,
As this world closes in
trying vainly to change my direction.

Strength, Faith, Clarity
remain my guiding light.

Pain, Rage, Fear
Are not strangers, but old foes
ripping, tearing and cutting in hopeless desperation
failing to open old wounds.

Walking forward, eyes wide open
knowing this is right and true.

Though rough the road may be,
Conquering those that wish to inflict harm,
seeking out other's bright light.

Teaching my young to face and overcome,
through his sacrifice, I am saved.
Through my belief, I pray I shine.

Guiding others on this narrow path,
while the world begins to crumble with chaotic revolution.
