LOOK AT ME

poem by: Graham Jenkinson

Next time you walk at night by the sea
Have a look in see a reflection of me
The inky black water is where I hide
Just waiting for you in the evening tide
Next time you are walking in the cold dark night
Stare beyond the darkness you may catch a sight
I will be there inside the enveloping dark
Just waiting for you on the beach, street or park
Next time you awake in your room late at night
It's me stood in the corner giving you a fright
For darkness I am and darker i'll become
Soon very soon through your fear you'll succumb
I am that nightmare dwelling deep in your brain
I'm the demon of your mind bringing you pain
I stand in the darkness but you can not see
There so many more just like me
I am there when the midnight bell's toll
I have walked this earth from centuries old
Standing in the darkness with a jet black soul
The night and I have become the same one
My black soul awakens when the daylight is gone
