Beauty Contested

poem by: Cecilia Crasto
Written on Mar 17, 2017

Now why can't I enter a beauty quest
Win or lose it's my right to contest
Age, race or gender should not hold us back
We've fought for our rights so let's get on track.

Woke up this morning and my hair has all gone
A touch of Alopecia and I'm like a sheep shorn
To make matters worse one eyebrow is missing
I look a freak and my cat is hissing.

The day arrives and I'm ready to go
Wig and makeup in place I head for the show
My dress is from Vinnies all silk and lace
And with my stilettos the stage I will grace.

They mock and laugh as I trip on my dress
Their joy is derived from my distress
I will be brave and I will stay strong
On this stage is where I belong.

We're all lined up to do the high kick
I raise my leg and feel my knee click
I'm forced to dance one leg in the air
As I look around in utter despair.

My name is called I'm about to be crowned
My courage and persistence has made me renowned
That dress from Vinnies was a very good deal
I'll remember them kindly for their Winter Appeal!

Haha, this is just hilarious , I laughed my head off imagining the leg stuck in the air for the whole duration of the show. Very funny Cecilia

Imagine my discomfort not to mention the embarrassment, but winning the contest compensated, thanks Maria and I'm glad that I made you laugh, that's what I like to do, there are too many people suffering depression these days
