Burning

poem by: Theresa Taylor
Written on Mar 19, 2017

When I tried to smother the fire inside
I scorched myself and I nearly died
I know now I will never be too hurt to yearn
And that true feelings are safe when they hide
Attached like the shadow by your side
Even if I sank in every ocean a thousand times
I still could not drown this flame I have inside tonight
You must never know of the candle engraved with your name
that would ruin everything!
and so I love you in vain and in secret
Only I know what this love feels like
Only I know it's pain
