Ardingly sonnet

ARDINGLY SONNET *
As English season moves into transition
From bone chilled misty days of meagre light
We begin to feel a warmth of sun's benediction
And come to days when daylight matches night
It's then we once again will heed the call
To that blessed Elysium nested in the Weald
Drawn ever to the noble Under Hall
Where contests will be fought and judgements sealed
Young pilgrims from old and new worlds we will greet
Bringing talents that seem far beyond their years
To strive and give their hearts in success or defeat
So when passing time has softened triumphs and tears
They'll remember how their spirits were lifted high
In the golden days they spent at Ardingly

[Anticipates the annual English speaking contest of young folks from across the world]

* Ardingly is pronounced to rhyme with 'shy' or 'goodbye']

Cecilia Crasto commented:
A beautiful sonnet Geoffrey paying tribute to these young people with grand hopes and dreams for the future, we hope that defeat for some, will spur them on to try again till they succeed, Glad to hear that your winter is coming to an end!
