Big black Cokatoos

Big black cockatoos

The big birds come
Those big black Cockatoos
They crowd the skies with wings outspread
So many of them too
Their piercing cries fill all the air
These beasts so powerful
They seem to rule the deep blue sky
With no trouble at all.

These truly wondrous birds
They alight upon a tree
All filled with nutty Banksia fruits
That sway in the morning breeze
Then with a lot of crazy noise
They fight and carry on
And feed upon those Banksia nuts
Till all these fruits are gone.

Then when these guys are done
Again they fill the sky
As they fly off with their piercing cries
Till soon the noise does die
As they move off to some distant trees
Far from the sight of me
And I’m left to ponder on these birds
And all their majesty

Very nice Peter, you must be an Aussie, writing about the Black Cockatoo. When I was young, there was a belief that when a group of Black Cockatoos flew over, you counted them, and that was how many days till rain.
