Poet In Decline

poem by: Cecilia Crasto
Written on Nov 06, 2017

My winters have grown much longer
The cold has settled in my bones
Doubts overshadow all attempts to write
Feelings expressed from the heart now wanes
Like the iciness that chills the blood in my veins
I'm looking through a clouded mirror
One that hides more than it reflects
Bereft of words scraps of paper lie bare
Ink form droplets suspended in mid air
Fragmented verses float on the breeze
Drifting away like atoms in the wind
Into the stratosphere of poetry archives
No inspiration comes to this empty mind
Searching for words that I can't seem to find
You appear then vanish play tricks on me
Lock up my mind and throw away the key
I write but little, I cross out a lot
Battles with the mind have all been fought
Just a word floating to the moon
Seeking the verse that died too soon
Will I write again with a mellifluous flow
Rekindle the muse and then write some more
I bid adieu to the verse and the rhyme
A sad farewell from a poet in decline.

Thank you Chris, Taha and Frank for your kind comments, for some time now I have been questioning the purpose of poetry in my life, but in saying that, tomorrow I might smell a rose, gaze at the stars and feel the urge to write something~till then I will read your amazing poetry!

I can relate to your poem and really like the flow of it. I had writter's block for a few years. I felt dead inside, and just went through the motions of life. but recently things have started to change. I wrote my first poem in years today and had to share it, and found myself here. You never know when inspiration will come to you, but once a writer, its hard not to go back to writing eventually.

From one poet to another. Separate each moment with calm soft patience lay down that weary head, your home, your safe, now rest. Even though you may not feel at this time inspired please know that you are inspiring. Thank you for sharing your poetry and conversation. I have no doubt I will again be reading something resplendent written by you when the time is right. C.Cleverly

Dear Cecilia, your eloquent and powerful words here show that the muse has not abandoned you. Perhaps you are lacking a subject with inspiration, but you clearly still have the talent and sensitivity to use language in highly effective ways. Have patiennce. Stimulation will come and verses will flow.
