Landfill

poem by: Michael Wise
Written on Apr 17, 2018

In my ponderings
of late
I've been chuckling
at fate

Or perhaps more
truthfully
fate's been chuckling
at me

And I asked myself
one day
If I were to
pass away

Would my absence
thus succeed
where my presence
failed indeed

Just by happenstance
to find
that my footsteps
crossed your mind?

For I feel like I've
been lost
Or more accurately
tossed

On the trash heap of
your past
to be rid of me
at last

While the maggots work
their way
through a friendship
in decay

It is very plain
to see
you no longer
value me

And so this is how
it ends
total strangers, once
close friends

Very well, I shall
depart
to the landfill in
your heart
