A boy and his Collie

poem by: Ann Parks
Written on Jul 19, 2018

You were the boy
walking past with your Collie
I hoped I would see you
(in your purple and black jacket)
and usually did.

In our twenties we dated
such close happy moments
my folks ultimatum
they would not accept you
it all had to end.

Life took other pathways
but dreams took me to your house
sitting waiting there for you
your mum was nice to me
but you didn't come.

We did stay friends
I always thought
we'd end up together
I'd visit you for a holiday
but you made no move.

One night on the phone
you critisised me
for moaning about work
something snapped in me
I ended the call.

That night on the phone
you fell from your pedestall
my awe for you died
my life had been wasted
in hopes for you.

I could get in touch
but what is the point now
I'm not in your plans
so won't let you judge me
yet still sometimes I dream......
