Mother of Famine

poem by: Chel Scott
Written on Aug 16, 2018

Her hopeful heart is heavy with sorrow,
as she wipes the tears from her child's face.
As she tries to conceal her own, she smiles.
The land seems starved, just like her child,
her whole world is suffering this famine.
As the day draws on, she consoles her son,
hoping the next day brings some form of sustenance.
Their future looks bleak.
She holds her boy close,
unconsciously stroking his hollow, protuberant belly.
He sleeps. There will be no sweet dreams for mother.
