Of Dreams: The Rollercoaster

Of my dreams, most are vague and blurry,
Except, the vividness of nightmares,
Each one, a view into my mind, the darkest lairs.

Friends everywhere, left and right,
seated next to me, faces full of delight,
A roller coaster ride, at an amusement park whose name I cannot recall,
This was our final one, as for the other attractions, we had done them all,
Each one of us getting onboard, with an almost surreal bliss,
Deep down inside of me, I knew something, was amiss.

Once everyone was seated the ride had begun,
The tracks whirred to life, and began to run,
The coaster with an unreal speed shot us forward,
The powerful alive air hit me hard,
Through my eyes I could not see, a mere second or two,
I could finally open them, upon hearing a strange sound like that of a coo,
We were over a harbor, many miles out though I was sure,
How could this be happening? Was the roller coaster just a guise or lure?

Suddenly holes in the track appeared,
not broken, but as if they were meant to be there,
The rollercoaster seemed alive, it writhed, and its head it did rear,
like some kind of perversion of a mad horse, the life drained away from my friends faces, and they showed only fear,
The coaster jumped the holes in the track, and shook us to our very soul,
Until it reached a hole that was too far for it to jump, its eyes turned black full of submission, like that of lifeless coal.

We hit the water hard and fast, and sank like that of a lead ball,
I undid my belt and started to swim up, I felt like I could make it in time,
But my friends, like evil wraiths, grabbed out at me and called,
“You did this to us, why Damir, why?
Do you hate us so much that you wish for us to die!”
They held me and I saw their faces age and rot,
The guilt and grief burning in me red hot,
For I only wanted to create joy and fun,
But again my actions, always dark consequences do wrought,
Within me I felt a strange whirlpool of feelings, the kind that should never be mixed,
And with my tears of anguish dissolving into the salty harbor, I kicked them off, and swam up,
of this ghastly grim nightmare, I had had enough.

But the nightmare, not ceasing, held me within its dark embrace,
And made me convulse a little longer as I peered into its black everlasting face,

I swam back down, against all reason and thought,
I cared about them and would let them die not,
I suddenly felt different, I had become a creature of the sea,
But I realized, when I reached the bottom, that these were not friends, but beasts that held evil intentions for me,
They ripped me apart in a most violent fashion, and laughed all the while, with a sadistic glee,
For this group I had mistaken as friends only wished to drag me down,
The powerful screaming I loosed from my lips, the water, did drown,
My being, now to be trapped in the deep dark abyss, and never again to be found.
And all that I’ve done and all that I’ve been shall mean nothing more, FIN.
