Smoke and Mirrors

poem by: Ladarius Brown
Written on Feb 05, 2013

Just because I don't smile doesn't mean I'm a thug.
Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I'm sad.
Who are you to judge my appearance or say I'm mean when you never gave me a chance.
Just because I'm big doesn't mean I hate working out or eat everything in sight.
This society is so judgmental that people are verbally abusive towards others because they don't look like Chris Brown or Denzel Washington.
You want to know why I don't smile, it's because everybody shows hatred towards each other.
It makes me sick to my stomach to realize that this generation is so judgmental like the previous.
I have a question for everyone, Where did all the love go?
Everything I've written in this poem, I have experienced it everywhere I go.
I cried so much and tried to figure out why people say these things to me.
I realize that words hurt more than a punch to the face.

Ladarius, this is a moving poem. I know how you feel. People are so hateful towards on another. This worlds is not getting better; it is getting worse. Anything goes in this hedonistic hell where the mantra is, "I'll get mine while the getting's good, and the person next to me be damned." There are some people who truly love though. I have stumbled across a few. I pray that you find some genuine people to grow with. Thanks for your transparency.

A very poignant message in this poem many people judge a book by its cover but get the story wrong.i know what it's like to be at the end of verbal abuse . excelent poem.
