Each year, on the tenth full moon, we are visited by the glorious Kuna - they are beautiful women, trained in the way of ninja, and their feet are shaped like an extra pair of hands. They come to us to ask for volunteers - girls, boys and jiu who are of the Age of Independence but before the Age of Becoming. The Volunteers are fully informed of what Kunari will involve, and they may leave the Kuna without penalty until the twelfth full moon. My daughter, Aimalh, volunteered to join the Kuna. She and five sevens more others were accepted for Initiation, making thrice thirteen potential Initiates. That night, the Kuna held an Initiation Ceremony for the Volunteers. Each Initiate was tied down to a stone slab, where their feet were cut open from the bottom parts. The bones were cut and pieces removed so that the feet may be shaped into hands. Gurkap and I were proud of Aimalh. She went with her new Kunari Family, but promised to return to us once every four years.
