Milo was Alex's other best friend and had recently started seeing a waitress named Sarah who was my polar opposite personality wise and sure she was drop dead gorgeous but she was also an air head. Alex, Milo and I had all gone to a private school so that meant we all came from wealthy families or in Alex's case his uncle paid for his schooling so Sarah was this months gold digger chasing Milo and he loved the attention. He swore true love to every new girl and was either attached to a girl or nurturing a broken heart.

I pulled on my hiking gear basically cargo shorts thick socks hiking boots and a singlet and a layer of bug repellent just to be sure then perfume to hide the smell. I wandered out to the hall where Alex stood waiting. He nodded at me then we went back into my room where I munched on the toast he had brought with him and he took a mouthful of coffee.
“So 18 today I got to say you look the same,” Alex tilted his head staring at me.
“What did you expect? Me to suddenly wake up with wrinkles and grey hair?” I winked at him over my toast.
“Funny, I just mean you've always looked the same to me,” Alex shifts in his chair so his his right ankle is on his right knee and leans back surveying me more.
“I know for a fact that's not true,” I bite back nursing the hidden wound from what he said.
“Well sure there's the scars,” He adds, Oh he did not just say that I thought.
“I meant I'm taller and it's not like I'm a flat stick figure or anything,” I said flatly.

He had the decency to blush then though his eyes did the flick that guys do when they try not to get caught checking out a girl's … assets. I sighed and rolled my eyes quickly gulping what was left of my cold coffee. We left the tray there and headed for the door soon after I had no idea of the time or where we were headed but I knew I could trust Alex to know where he was going.

Sure enough a couple hours later we stood above a beautiful landscape there had been a forest I hadn't really noticed with mountains and even caves, I really wasn't in the city anymore. Alex stood there like some sort of wild adventurer not even out of breath with a huge backpack on I hunched with hands on my knees next to him sweating like an absolute pig and feeling like I couldn't catch my breath.

Alex handed me his water and put down the backpack.
“We'll stop for lunch here ok?” Alex asked to which I just nodded as he went to explore the cave that sat right next to our view of his uncles farm.
“Are you sure it's only lunch time I feel like we've been out here all day?” I asked when I finally found my voice.
“Fine its like 2 in the afternoon but still we haven't eaten lunch so its lunch,” Came his voice echoing out the cave entrance.
“So its more like dunch?” I chuckled.
“Most people just call that afternoon tea,” He smiled at me as he exited the cave.
“I'm not most people,” I smile holding up my drink in a half hearted salute.
“Ain’t that the truth.”

“Shouldn't we head back the sun is starting to set,” I call out to Alex as I splash around in a small creek near the cave he still seemed to be exploring.
“Nah we're fine, why don't you come in here?” Alex's voice echoed again.
“You know caves creep me out ever since you made me watch that cave diving movie,” I yelled back. I could here his laugh so I walked closer to the entrance.
“I'm serious come in,” Alex appeared at the entrance and held out his hand.
“I don't know Alex, Milo would have gotten to your house hours ago we should head back,” I said hesitating.
“He knows where to find this place if he ever takes a break from Sarah,” Alex stepped forward a new spark in his eyes scared me a little.

I reached out and took his hand as we entered the cave it was then I noticed the candles everywhere. I wondered aloud about it but Alex ignored me and led on as I walked I noticed this wasn't a cave but a tunnel that led deeper and higher into the mountain.
